Agrifood Skills International Fellowships

AgriFood Skills Australia wishes to advise you that applications for two international agrifood fellowships will close on 7 September. The fellowships are valued at $10,000 each and are being made available to all sectors of the agrifood industry in collaboration with the International Specialised Skills Institute.

Successful applicants each receive a maximum of $10,000 towards overseas travel costs, such as airfares, accommodation, living allowance and course fees. The fellowships seek to promote the acquisition of higher-level skills and an appreciation of international best practice and they will encourage the examination of innovative approaches being taken overseas. They would need to have application for the agrifood industry in Australia.

The fellowships are available to all stand territories for people working in urban, rural and regional areas:

  • Rural and related industries (includes horticulture, conservation and land management and animal care)
  • Food Processing industry (includes wine, beverages and pharmaceuticals)
  • Meat industry
  • Seafood industry
  • Racing industry

The AgriFood Skills International Fellowship is an initiative under the ISS Institute 'Overseas Skills Acquisition Plan (Overseas Fellowships)' and is fully funded by AgriFood Skills Australia.

  • Providing opportunities to develop high-level skills and knowledge for their workplaces and for the broader agri-food industry
  • Assisting in the dual challenge of reducing skills deficiencies and shortages in the agri-food industry and promoting skills and workplace capacity
  • Encouraging innovative workplace solutions through traditional and leading-edge technology, innovation, design, management and leadership
  • Supporting leading-edge technologies as well as traditional skill areas
  • Providing a mechanism whereby the skills, knowledge and attitudes acquired overseas are made available across Australia
  • Establishing contact with overseas industry, government agencies, professional associations and educational institutions with a view to ongoing communication and projects
  • Building cross-cultural exchanges

Agrifood industry
The agrifood industry makes a significant contribution to Australia's economy, national wealth and export income. Agrifood enterprises occupy two thirds of the continental land mass and generate around $208 billion a year to the national economy. Agrifood provides food for 60 million people and employs up to 880,000 people. The industry has more than 140,000 separate enterprises, more than 90 per cent of these are family-owned and operated.
About AgriFood Skills Australia
AgriFood Skills Australia seeks to deliver enhanced capability and innovation to the agrifood industry and to influence policy on skills formation and workforce development:

  • Provides advice and support to the agrifood industry and enterprises on skills and workforce development and solutions
  • Advises Skills Australia, the National Quality Council, DEEWR and other agencies
  • Continuously improves and implements quality training products that deliver nationally recognised skills and qualifications

The company collaborates with industry, producers and processors, national and state peak bodies, companies and corporate consortia, training providers and brokers, other industry skills councils and the three tiers of government. ISS Institute
