Campbell Awarded Highest Accolade

Well-known gardening and horticultural identity Colin Campbell was awarded the Queensland Horticultural Industry Person of the Year 2008 at the Australian Institute of Horticulture Awards Night on Wednesday 3rd December. This prestigious award represents the highest accolade for a person in the Queensland lifestyle horticultural industry.

Colin has had a long history with many industry associations, being pivotal in the creation of various state bodies. Through his prominent media position with TV, radio and print, Colin has advocated the importance of the horticultural industry and the role of industry associations. His participation in consumer and industry events highlights the respect and significance he holds.

"I am overwhelmed by the award as I believe the ultimate award is one that is judged by your industry peers. It is a great honour to have received this award and I am humbled as there are many people in the Institute that are deserving of this recognition" Colin expressed on his award presentation.

Colin's involvement in media includes ABC Gardening Australia television program, writing for the Courier Mail and gardening magazines such as subTropical Gardening, and the highly rated Garden Talkback with Radio 4BC on weekends.

"I would also like to congratulate the Institute in raising the professionalism of all involved in the horticultural industry. Gardeners, nursery people and landscape professionals all stand to benefit."

Queensland President of the Australian Institute of Horticulture, Linda Brennan, said "Colin is a living treasure in the gardening and horticulture world. He is a great mentor for many in the industry and has a terrific ability to connect gardeners to important issues in the industry. This award recognises his broad palette of skills, expertise and his value to Queensland gardeners, professionals and the industry."

Colin is currently working on his first gardening book due out in 2009.
