Kerri Young MAIH

Kerri Young is an AIH member with an extraordinary breadth and depth of horticultural experience.

Kerri's various roles over the years include many years at Plantscape and Greenworld Indoor Gardens where she maintained indoor and outdoor gardens throughout the Burswood hotel and many other corporate gardens throughout the city of Perth.

Her altruistic (or shall we say masochistic) streak led her to teaching landcare at Tammin Alcoa Landcare Education Centre and working at Perth Zoo on a landcare programme for long term unemployed youth.

She spent several years at the Department of Agriculture working throughout the state on revegetation trials, fodder trials, seed collection and propagation, farm planting, data collection and management.

She also co-ordinated a revegetation project in Kulin using 150 volunteers from the metro area and planted 145,000 trees onto degraded land on farming properties. The project was a finalist for the John Tonkin Award.

Kerri also has extensive garden centre experience. She was a senior staff member at award winning nurseries Zanthorrea and Garden Affair. She also worked for Garden Elegance.

On top of all this roaming around, throughout her career Kerri has worked as a landscape designer and horticultural consultant and completed design contracts for the Department of Housing and Works over a 19 year period.

These days the multiskilled Kerri focuses on horticultural consultancy work through her business 'Hotplants' and when asked what she's up to now she says 'anything that takes my fancy on the day'. Hotplants offers a range of services from design and consultancy to contract management and maintenance of landscapes.

Her passions are environmental issues and promoting Australian plants. She believes they have a potential which is not yet fully realized and hopes to redress the lack of knowledge of their use and care within the industry.

Kerri is a warm and generous lady who loves a laugh; she knows many people within the industry and is always ready to help out. Say hello to her when you get the chance!
