Vale Elizabeth Smith FAIH

It is with great sadness we have heard of the passing of one of our most esteemed members. Liz Smith, Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH) Fellow passed away on April 16.

Liz was well known and highly respected by many throughout the profession as a good friend and a committed supporter and trainer of many of our horticulturists through her business Horticultural Training Pty Ltd.

Liz nurtured many young people studying horticulture, a number who are now the new leaders of the profession.

She generously sponsored the annual AIH Silver Gum award from its inception and extended her valued support to others across the spectrum of horticulture.

Liz served the Institute in many capacities over many years the most recent as National Treasurer and helped initiate the AIH Registered Horticulturist accreditation program, at all times with her trademark honest (and greatly appreciated) assessments of things as she saw them.

Will you join with me in sending Liz’s husband Peter and her family our warmest wishes at this time.
